Senators Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Bill Hagerty (R-TN) joined Congressman Chuck Fleischmann in introducing the Migrant Resettlement Transparency Act.
If enacted, the legislation would require the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to consult with state and local officials regarding federally sanctioned migrant resettlement before the migrants are relocated to the specific area.
Additionally, the bill would require the Biden administration to submit to Congress and governors a monthly, state-specific report regarding the resettlement, transportation, or relocation of migrants that are located within their state.
The trio of lawmakers from Tennessee introduced the legislation after reports surfaced that the Biden administration was using the Volunteer State as a way station to ship migrants to various locations throughout the southern part of the country.
“In Tennessee, the Biden Administration was caught using a Chattanooga airport to secretly traffic migrant children into the interior of our country without the knowledge or involvement of state or local officials,” Blackburn said in a statement.
Under the Biden administration, the U.S. has witnessed a surge in illegal immigration. Many border processing facilities are overcrowded. Therefore, the administration is relocating illegal immigrants throughout the country.
“President Biden’s border crisis has turned every town into a border town, and the resettlement of migrants is an effect of that crisis that impacts citizens on a local level, placing new strains on schools, hospitals, law enforcement, and other emergency services,” Hagerty continued.
The group criticized President Joe Biden for the lack of transparency throughout the process. No elected official within the state said that they were told of the plans by the administration beforehand.
“Federal transparency with state and local officials is always important in our republic, but it’s particularly critical during the ongoing crisis on the border,” Fleischmann added.

Migrants? Their illegal aliens that just happen to be children. If this legislation doesn’t stop ORR from going around the state and dealing with NGO’s like Catholic Charities then it is a waste of time. Tennessee ended the state’s participation in 2008. That should have been the end of refugees being settled here but Congress has allowed ORR to write their own rules and ORR just started contracting with Catholic Charities. If this bill doesn’t deal with that it’s as phony as our two Senators.
Waste of time. Again the liberals create chaos so Republicans will be distracted from the real issues. Liberals are masters of chaos and Republicans are masters at playing catch up but they are always too late.
